Empowering women for a female driven financial future.

If you missed our first ever ShireWomen Empower event - it was deservedly a sell out!

Firstly, we want to say thanks to Members and Guests who have provided us with lots of positive feedback about the night - we’ve been really pleased to receive calls and emails from you. We'd also like to thank Tamara Sciuriaga, Elissa Dowler and their team from DPN for working so hard to make this event a success.

For those of you who couldn’t make it - he’s a quick wrap-up of what you missed.

Thanks to the generous sponsorship of DPN, on 29th May ShireWomen members and guests were treated to a sophisticated and thought provoking evening of live music, delightful food & drinks, networking and empowering presentations in DPN's stunning offices and stylish rooftop venue.

Guest speaker Marianne Hynes, Chief Operating Officer for PwC's Indigenous Consulting firm, PIC, ‘kicked off’ the educational part of the evening by sharing information about the 'state of play' in regards to women and wealth in Australia.

Marianne is passionate about health and well-being, self-development and living a fulfilling life. She is known for her strong, calm and positive energy and regarded as a trusted advisor. Marianne is at her best when faced with a challenging situation. Most of all, Marianne is all about developing and empowering people to become the best version of themselves.

Marianne shared her life story and some of the hard but valuable lessons she learnt on her journey to financial independence. This was a very personal, honest and poignant talk by Marianne, so much so most of us were moved to tears! Her sincerity and generosity in sharing her story; learnt valuable lessons and; felt inspired to take action towards their own financial independence.

We then moved into two smaller groups to hear from our other guest speakers.

Stephanie Allen, ShireWomen Business Member and Clinical Psychologist with her own Private Practice - Life &Mind Psychology in Miranda - helped us learn how to make balanced and wise decisions that fit with our personal goals and values, rather than just being driven only by our emotions, or logic.

Steph is trained to help people using evidence based psychological therapies, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). Steph shared some techniques we can all use to move to and make decisions using the wise mind - that is, moving from making financial decisions purely just using the logical or just the emotional mind.

Sarah Fitzpatrick shared her story of her journey to becoming a property investor. Sarah shared how uncertain she was about her ability to invest at first - from both a financial and emotional point of view. She shared how bit by bit with the help of the DPN team, she learned to be successful and has since invested in two properties, and about to invest in her third. Sarah ended by saying that she doesn't really consider herself a property investor but we all felt it was quite the contrary. We all felt confident that she is indeed a property investor and an inspirational one at that!

Elissa Dowler facilitated the session with Sarah Fitzpatrick. Elissa is Enterprise Strategy Leader at DPN and is a passionate advocate for helping women build financial independence. Elissa is highly experienced in her field and helped out by explaining investment terms and providing educational information regarding property investment.

We then all gathered back together to finish the evening with tea & coffee, charming macaroons and friendly chat. DPN presented the speakers and all the ladies who attended with a well considered and beautiful gift from Sodashi. Everybody left feeling spoilt, empowered and inspired to take positive steps towards a better financial future.

Why ShireWomen Empower?

Did you know that Women with a superannuation balance over $100,000 comprise only 16.4% of the population? Of all superannuation account balances held in Australia, Women hold only 38.7% of those accounts. To retire comfortably, it is estimated a super balance of $590,000 is required, therefore women are hugely disadvantaged when it comes to a stable financial future.

Don't worry - it's not all doom and gloom!

Our speakers and panelists are from a variety of backgrounds. They will share experiences and lessons learnt from the vulnerable financial situations that women often face - challenges like divorce, low super balance, career breaks, outliving our partners and insufficient retirement funds. They'll talk about how they overcame these challenges, and what you can do to protect yourself and the women in your life from similar situations.

Come along, get empowered and improve your future!

The financial future is female - let us help you embrace it.
